Lloyd’s syndicate AEGIS London has recruited Jeremy Smart as a Class Underwriter within its International Casualty team, reporting to Stephen Merrick.
In his new role, Smart will be responsible for a mix of territories with an emphasis on Australia and Canada.
He returns to AEGIS London following a nine-year stint heading up the international team at CNA Hardy.
He has extensive experience in client and broker interaction and active account marketing in Australasia, Canada and Europe having worked in segments such as the oil and gas energy business, the electric and gas utility business, as well as general liability coverage for transport, petro-chemicals, medium to heavy industry, contractors and mining.
Smart has underwritten exposures for construction, product recall, professional indemnity, failure to supply and financial loss liability.
Additionally, he is responsible for the management of the Canadian Liability Binder portfolio, and previously ran the USA excess onshore energy account and the primary and excess offshore energy account.
Merrick commented on the appointment: “I am delighted to be welcoming Jeremy to the team. He brings with him a wealth of experience across a broad range of industries and territories.
We know that clients and brokers will be delighted to see Jeremy back at AEGIS London – many of whom will remember him from his first spell here. It’s great to see him returning and we’re excited to get him started.”
Smart added: “I’m very happy and proud to be joining the AEGIS London international casualty team. The team and syndicate have a hard-earned, well-deserved strong reputation and I look forward to working together with them and sharing in future successes.”
