During the 2025 Rendez-Vous de Septembre (RVS) in Monte Carlo, Thierry Léger, Group CEO of SCOR, stated that the company clearly sees more opportunities than risks from artificial intelligence (AI), noting that it provides a real opportunity to supercharge its business model.
Léger emphasised that AI is going to create opportunities for re/insurers and will be an incredible accelerator of change in companies.
“It’s going to lead to a lot of changes in the way we price for risk,” he said. “I think it’s going to lead to innovation. It’s going to create opportunities for insurers and reinsurers, it’s going to create efficiencies as well for the insurance and reinsurance world.”
Although Léger acknowledged that AI comes with risks, he noted, “SCOR clearly sees more opportunities than risks. For us we see AI as a clear net positive.”
He continued, “We have a very strong team, almost 100 people at SCOR, who are focused entirely on AI, getting our data in order and working on applications. AI Assistant is an application we developed two years ago, and we use this solution ourselves internally, but it’s also a solution we sell to our clients.”
Léger expects the AI journey to be a seismic shift in the way SCOR conducts its business, stating that it will help with productivity and accuracy.
“So the conclusion is that risk awareness is growing, which overall leads to an increase in reinsurance demand. It’s very clear, as a reinsurer, we are on our toes. We monitor the horizon, but we think we are really well positioned, and we see AI as a real opportunity for us to supercharge our business model,” he said.
