MS Transverse gets credit ratings upgrade from AM Best

06/20/2025 by Linda

AM Best, a credit rating agency, has upgraded the Financial Strength Rating of MS Transverse Specialty Insurance Company, MS Transverse Insurance Company, and TRM Specialty Insurance Company—together known as MS Transverse Insurance Group (MS Transverse)—from A (Excellent) to A+ (Superior).

ms-transverse-logoAdditionally, their Long-Term Issuer Credit Ratings have been raised from “a+” (Excellent) to “aa” (Superior).

The outlook for these ratings remains stable. These firms are based in Dallas, Texas, and are now part of MSIG Holdings (USA), Inc., a US subsidiary of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company, Limited (MSI).

The upgrade reflects the combined financial strength of MSI, which AM Best rates as strongest, alongside its strong operational results, attractive business profile, and sound enterprise risk management practices.

The improved ratings result from full application of ratings benefits to MS Transverse due to increased backing from its parent company, MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, Inc. (MS&AD), and MSI, its primary insurance entity.

MSI’s credit standing is effectively extended to MS Transverse through explicit guarantees and implicit support. MS Transverse is regarded as a strategically significant part of the group and a principal engine for growth in the US market.

MS Transverse has reinforced its standing in the US managing general agent market, now ranking among the top five fronting carriers based on direct premiums written.

Since its acquisition in early 2023 to expand MSI’s presence in the fast-growing fronting sector, MS Transverse has benefitted from MSI’s unconditional guarantee, inclusion in its reinsurance panel, and readiness to provide additional capital if required.

The MS Transverse management team reports directly to MSI and shares services with other MSI affiliates in the US. Profitability improved substantially throughout 2024 and continued robustly into the first quarter of 2025, positioning MS Transverse as a key contributor to MSI’s earnings.
