Markel, the insurance arm of Markel Group Inc., has announced the appointment of Erik Johnson as Head of Technical Underwriting and Oversight, effective immediately.
In this newly created position, Johnson will lead the International Technical Underwriting team, setting and upholding high standards for technical underwriting across the organisation.
He will also oversee the Wordings team, collaborating closely with Chloe Adams, the Head of Wordings, to provide strategic guidance throughout the business.
Operating from London, Johnson will report directly to Nick Line, Chief Underwriting Officer for Markel International.
Johnson first joined Markel as a consultant in May 2024. Before that, he held various leadership roles in the London insurance market, including Active, Deputy Active, and syndicate management positions.
A strong advocate for diversity, Johnson co-founded the LGBT Insurance Network in 2012 and remains an active voice for inclusion within the industry. He also serves on several boards and advisory panels, contributing to initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion in the insurance sector.
