Canopius Group, a global specialty and P&C insurer and reinsurer, has announced the appointment of Candace Steele as Group Risk Director, tasked with coordinating the company’s risk framework.
She will lead the Group Risk function and work in collaboration with the Business Unit CROs to enrich Canopius’ global approach to risk.
The executive joined Canopius on 17 March 2025 and will report to Sheldon Lacy, Group Chief Risk Officer, who said: “As we continue our growth trajectory, our commitment to robust risk management is absolutely paramount to success.
“The level of global experience and expertise Candace has gathered over her career is pivotal to such a strategy and will undoubtedly help us deliver the best possible service to our clients. I’m excited to welcome her aboard.”
With over two decades of risk, compliance and regulatory experience in complex global insurance environments, Steele joined Canopius after a six-year tenure at CG Insurance.
At CG Insurance she served as Chief Compliance and Risk Officer, successfully navigating a period of significant expansion and growth through acquisition.
She also spent eight years at Validus Holdings, where she took on roles of increasing responsibility and eventually became Group Compliance Officer.
As Group Compliance Officer, Steele was responsible for leading the strategy for enterprise-wide risk and compliance management.
