Fabian Desch has been appointed as the next general manager for QBE’s Germany unit, pending regulatory approval.
Desch, who will start his new role once all regulatory approvals are in place, will report to Beatriz Valenti, director of Insurance at QBE Europe, from September 1, to ensure a smooth transition.
Desch, has been with QBE since 2022, and currently serves as Head of Distribution for QBE Europe, where he has been helping manage QBE’s German team since his predecessor Andrea Brock went on gardening leave in May.
During his time serving as Head of Distribution for QBE Europe, Desch, along with his team, has grown the organisation’s broker relationships across Europe, implementing growth initiatives in collaboration with underwriting, and driving forward customer initiatives.
When he takes on his future role as general manager for Germany, Desch will reportedly design and implement QBE’s plan for the country across offices in Duesseldorf, Hamburg and Munich, focusing on underwriting expertise and broker service.
An experienced veteran across the sector, Desch holds more than two decades of expertise on the broking side.
He started his career with WTW in 2001, where he worked in project management and rolled out various IT programmes.
Following this, he would then go on to head commercial services for Northern Germany.
Still with WTW, Desch would go on to become a senior director in 2019 as head of broking for Germany and Austria, and then went on to become deputy head of broking for Western Europe in 2020. He would go on to serve in this role until April 2022.
Valenti, commented: “Over the last few years, we have done a great job positioning QBE in the German market and expanding our line of products, including the marine launch. Fabian can build on this as we further grow marine, but also cyber, sustainable energy and pharma life science. QBE will also be developing its multinational programmes and positioning itself as a leading insurer for Germany.”
